In the Indian film industry, various contracts are used to manage relationships and transactions among producers, directors, actors, technicians, and other stakeholders. Here is a list of some common documents:

Non-disclosure Agreement/ Confidentiality Agreements

Contracts ensuring confidentiality of sensitive information shared among parties before/ during/ after the making of the film/the production.

Actor/ Actress Contract/ Artist Agreement

Agreements between producers and actors outlining terms of engagement, remuneration, schedules, and other responsibilities.

Director’s Contract

Agreements detailing the director’s duties,creative control, fee, and timeline for the project.

Note:

  • In the above table, Agreements marked ‘M’ should be considered mandatory and ‘good-to-have’.
  • ‘AA’ stands for ‘As Applicable’ and refers to contracts that may have to be executed on a case-to- case basis.
  • ‘IA’ stands for ‘If Applicable’ and these contracts shall cover situational transactions.
  • ‘GTH’ stands for ‘Good to have’. These documents add an additional security to the transfer of rights in any underlying IP.
